Will Anybody Know That I Was Here? – The Songs of Mary Beulah
£18.00 – £32.00
East Central One presents “Will Anybody Know That I Was Here? – The Songs of Mary Beulah” by American singer-songwriter MARY LEE KORTES.
The story was conceived by Mary Lee, and tells of Mary Beulah, a musician in the 1930s who dies at just 21 years old. Her piano bench, and songs, survived the fire that killed her and ended up with Mary Lee. The album marries haunting, timeless compositions in the style of early 20th century folk music with timeless lyrics.
Although the album may be an interpretation of a fictional voice, its themes and emotions are deeply personal. As Mary Lee says: “Just because I made this all up, doesn’t mean it isn’t true.”
The album was produced by the late Hal Willner and also features appearances from Joe Jackson.
